Bacterial vaginosis or B.V. is inflammation of the genitourinary tract (GIT) of a woman's vagina. It's most typical symptoms are a thick, white discharge from vagina with a foul and fishy odor. Bacterial vaginosis is caused due to growth of a set of bacteria leading to pH imbalance in the affected area.

This bacteria growth makes the infected tissue red and swollen and is associated with a burning sensation and pain in the vaginal. Bacterial vaginosis home remedies include a variety of everyday things, such as water, yogurt and tea just to mention some of them. The infection is easily curable via home remedies and some precautionary measures involving personal hygiene.

Home remedies have proven records in dealing with the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis. Below are nine home remedies that have proved valuable for bacterial vaginosis relief.

1 Garlic - Taken Orally or Applied Over the Affected Area.

You can take one capsule of garlic each day or apply it directly at vagina. Wrap a peeled garlic clove in a piece of gauze and insert it in vagina. If you repeat this treatment after an interval of 3-4 hours, it will help reducing the infection.

2 Cool Water

A fabric soaked in cold water can be laid across the affected area to obtain relief from redness and swelling due to constriction of blood vessels. This is the simplest home remedy for removing pain and burning sensation.

3 Cotton Soaked in Yogurt

Yogurt can be used two ways:
-        Cotton plugs soaked in yogurt for insertion in the vagina
-        Applying yogurt directly over the affected area.

Treatment with yogurt has been clinically investigated and found to be beneficial in the long haul.

4 A Tea Bag

Soak a tea bag in plain water and let it cool for a while in refrigerator. Now, apply the bag externally to relieve itching.

For preventive purposes or for avoiding severe B.V. symptoms you should carefully cleanse your underwear, practice clean toilet hygiene as well as taking warm baths often. Items for daily use, such as pillows, bed sheets, towels and the like should me washed separately. The best way to prevent these awful vaginal bacteria is probably to eat yogurt regularly.
